To Officers fraternity,
Pursuant to our continuous representations, our bank, vide Circular No. 100551-2025 dated 25.07.2025, formally reiterated a critical principle enshrined in Clause 3(3) of the Union Bank of India Officer Employees’ Conduct Regulations, 1976 — namely, the prohibition on acting upon oral instructions.
Key directives of the circular are as follows:
• No officer shall act on oral instructions, whether pertaining to operations, HR, or financial matters.
• It is incumbent upon the officer receiving any such direction to obtain written confirmation prior to compliance.
• All actions must fall strictly within the ambit of delegated powers and authorized procedures.
• Non-compliance may attract vigilance inquiry and/or disciplinary proceedings.
Although long overdue, this acknowledgment by the management—albeit prompted by a challenging regulatory incident—is a result of our persistent efforts in highlighting the inherent risks of verbal instructions. We will continue to engage with the management on unresolved grey areas to uphold institutional integrity.
Let this be a reminder — the issues raised by us are aimed at protecting the interests, reputation, and legacy of our esteemed institution.
All comrades are advised to circulate this communication widely and ensure strict adherence. Safeguard yourself — insist on written instructions.
Comradely greetings
Sreenath Induchoodan
