Balancing Responsibility with Well-being: A Banker’s Reality

Good morning..!!

On this World Health Day, it is necessary to draw attention to an issue that directly affects the banking fraternity, “mental health.”

Bankers are human beings, and the continuous pressure of targets, long working hours, and responsibility for high-value decisions inevitably leads to exhaustion. This reality must be acknowledged.

Mental health is as important as physical health. A healthy workforce is crucial for every organisation, more so in banking, where officers are entrusted with decisions involving public money, sanctioning loans worth crores and taking calls that have a direct bearing on the economy of the country.

It is therefore imperative that banks consciously ensure the well-being of their officers. Regular evaluation of mental health, along with supportive work environments, is no longer optional, it is essential.

At the same time, accountability must be fixed. Superiors and higher officials cannot remain indifferent to the deteriorating mental health of their subordinates.

A strong institution can only be built on a healthy workforce. Let us commit to creating a system where the dignity, balance, and well-being of every banker is protected.
